Mt Hutt

The Mount Hutt Ski fields provides the most reliable snowfalls and the longest skiing season of all the New Zealand ski resorts. Mount Hutt is located just over an hours drive west of Christchurch and is set deep in the local mountain ranges. The drive in to the resort is spectacular and provides fantastic alpine scenery. For those skiers and snowboarders wishing to experience the Mount Hutt ski fields there is day access from Christchurch and Methven, which is a little closer to the ski slopes.

As with most of the New Zealand ski fields, there is no on snow accommodation at Mount Hutt. Most skiers stay in accommodation in Methven or utilise one of the many excellent Christchurch accommodation providers. Shuttle bus services operate to the ski fields every day when the ski fields at Mount Hutt are open. Mount Hutt has excellent skiing facilities which include chair lifts and tows. There is a fantastic service building that has ski and snowboard hire as well as a restaurant and and coffee shop complex. The slopes at Mount Hutt cater for skiers and riders of all levels of competence with gentle slopes for the beginners ranging right through to black diamond runs for the experts.

Getting to Mount Hutt for a skiing holiday is easy. You can fly in to Christchurch and pre arrange some great accommodation and a hire vehicle before you arrive. Flights arrive from Australia and from other New Zealand destinations. Accommodation ranges from backpacker hostels, right through to five star resorts with golf courses. Mount Hutt provides a real and inexpensive alternative for Australian skiers and European skiers can come to New Zealand in their off season and ski all year round.
